WIA was founded by 5 men from Melbourne who started manufacturing welding electrodes to suit rural markets.

By the 1970’s WIA manufactured welding wires and welding equipment locally in Australia.

WIA worked with CSIRO to develop one of the world’s first pulse welding machines – The CDT.

WIA products began to sell nationally through a loyal distribution network, allowing the brand to further succeed.

WIA became part of ITW (Illinois Tool Works), which provided access to the world’s leading welding brands – Miller, Hobart and Bernard.
